Mobile applications have taken the center stage in the new normal brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when different industries have been grappling under the environment of uncertainty and hardships, mobile apps as a whole has demonstrated the strength to reinforce a series of innovations to keep the world running.

How epidemic has changed Mobile App Development? What are the development trends of mobile app in the COVID-19 era?

Asia Smart App Awards (ASA) is coming back! The 8th edition of the ASA, organised by Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and sponsored by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, not only recognises Asia’s inventive and best-of-breed smart apps, but also provides a platform for app development professionals in Asia to learn and share the latest industry updates and expertise.

The WTIA will organise a kick-off ceremony to officially open the 8th edition of the ASA. It will be immediately followed by a Smart App Seminar.

In the seminar, winners of the ASA 2020 Mr. Nicolas Guyon, Co-Founder of Visionaries 777, Mr. Brian Hui, Co- Founder of Pokeguide, Mr. Jason Yuen, Co-Founder & CEO of SOCIF, and Ir Dr. Kelvin Siu, Founder & CEO, InnoSpire Technology, will join as guest speakers to share their experience in participating in the ASA and encourage their counterparts to actively participate in the new edition.

Nicolas Guyon is one of the co-founder of Visionaries 777, a company designs and develops scalable and interactive software tools for industry leaders. Their expertise in XR content and strategies span the full range of key domains and can be applied across the entire organization. Prior to setting up Visionaries 777, Nicolas worked for LEGO within their R&D department, leading the co-creation of their first AR patents focusing on innovative play experiences.

Brian Hui is the Co-founder of Pokeguide, a navigation app helping people how to go from one place to another by public transportation. The app covers a variety of transportation means, from subway, train, bus, minibus to free shuttle bus. It covers Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan with over 300,000 users.

Jason has co-founded SOCIF in 2018. He is responsible for business development in both the transport and logistics sectors. In 2 years' time, SOCIF has acquired diversified clients ranging from the Transport Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to metro railways, bus operators, minibus operators and logistic companies in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific regions. Jason strives to advocate smart mobility advancement using AI, IoT & edge computing technology. In 2021, partnered with HKT and Octopus HK, SOCIF was awarded with a government contract from the Transport Department to provide an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) service to 3,500+ public green minibuses, serving 1.5+ million daily passengers.

IR DR. KELVIN SIU

InnoSpire Technology

IR Dr. Siu Kai Wing is the Founder and CEO of a technology startup called InnoSpire Technology Limited. The company has developed a mobile app called WeVoice+. This app aims at building a worldwide community consisting of volunteers and the visually impaired. The app has won the Bronze Award of the Asia Smart App Awards 2020, the Championship of Hong Kong Techathon 2020 and was a winner of the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge (HKSEC) in 2020. The project is currently supported by incubation programme of Hong Kong Science & Technology Park (HKSTP).
